Sunbeds

Sunbeds emit UV radiation. UV radiation causes sunburn, actinic dermatitis, skin ageing even at younger ages and in the worst case skin cancer. A careless use of sunbeds can therefore have severe health consequences.

If you want to avoid these consequences you can abstain from using sunbeds - or at least try to reduce the health risks. Legal regulations have been enacted for that.

Legal regulations for sunbeds

Since August 2009, the Act on Protection against Non-Ionising Radiation in Human Applications (NiSG) has been in force. Since 1 January 2012, the associated Ordinance on Protection against Harmful Effects of Artificial Ultraviolet Radiation (UV Protection Ordinance) has been in force.

Sunbed Check

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz, BfS) advises that anybody who, despite the health risks involved, would like to use a sunbed should make a quality check on their own as a matter of principle. The "sunbed check" below provides a checklist suitable for this purpose.
